Beware of spoilers below. Just warning ya. ;)

"It was like being underwater again. Like charging into Nehemia's room and finding that beautiful body mutilated on the bed. Like seeing Galan Ashryver, beloved and brave, riding off into the sunset to the cheers of his people."

WOW. WOW. WOW. I'm sitting here, speechless and unable to put my thoughts together after this one hell of a thrill-ride. *takes 5 deep breaths* I don't know what to say, think, act, or be after reading this book. 600 pages of awesomeness? Yes, you've got it right here.

As you may or may not have known, this series has SO MANY FANS. There's only a few authors who can grab a reader and intrigue them so easily, and that's what Sarah J. Maas simply does to me, and to thousands of other people. Almost every single review I've read on a book from this series is strictly a rave and fangirled. 4-5 stars, usually. Thankfully I began reading this series a little late, so the Crown of Midnight cliffhanger and book-hangover was worth it to wait for another couple of weeks. But now, I'm dying here. *joins the club of crying, bawling, and angry people*

Eh. I can't believe it's all over—for now, at least. I spent only a few hours tearing through this novel (at once in one sitting) because I loved it too much. I felt that Sarah's writing is so coincidental (in a good way) and she purposely creates such horrifying cliffhangers because she wants us to be in mutual pain. Either way, I still love and heart you, Sarah, Celaena, Chaol, Dorian, and Rowan. :)

So really, *thinks hard* where does this book began. As Part One, Heir of Ash comes into, Celaena is now at her destination, Wendlyn. Crown of Midnight left off with a crazy cliffhanger and suspenseful ending that we couldn't let go, and we're fast-forwarded into a little off into the future from the past's events. This chick, as we'd expect her to be, has been alone, but strong during this time although the truth behind her and her destiny is boggling her mind to this day. Once she arrives, she meets Rowan, fae prince and warrior, and he hates her immediately. The rumours behind her "assassin past" lies beneath her, and there are some people who know, which can possibly change everything. 

Although romance wasn't a large aspect of this book, Maas of course had to add it in because we all love Chaol, Dorian, and now ROWAN. Damn. Who'd expect another bunch of awesome characters to be added in?

"For the better part of half an hour, the creatures fought in the rainy dark, until those wretched shrieks, turned victorious, and the unearthly roars sounded no more. Celaena and Rowan held tight to each other and did not dare close their eyes for the entirety of the night."

Okay. I ship them a little, but I'm still Team CHAOL AND DORIAN. No doubt about it. But finally, Celaena has someone who is so similar and alike to her that she can confide and confess anything to them without some secrets and love mysteries. There were the romance moments between them, though, but I found that it didn't change anything between her and the other men.

Just like the other books, the feels came back. And they hit me HARD. I have to admit that I wasn't crying or anything, but I went through such jittery mood swings and anger and frustration and basically all the feels that you have been hit with in the previous books times TEN. 

So that does make me think... *twirls moustache* Do feels get me to give the book a higher rating? Absolutely, and the feels in this one probably gave this book a point five better as well.

I felt like I was on fire for more than half of the time while reading this. I DESERVED THE HEIR. *laughs to self* Get it, heir of fire? I'm on fire? xD

This book was huge, no lies. Not everyone can go through a 600-paged book so easily, but I just had to because my love for this series is undying. It almost had everything I was looking for from a sequel to CoM. Character-development—ten thousand checkmarks, perfect plot—almost, action—YESYESYES!

Sarah introduced us to two main new characters, with a couple side ones. But really, both Rowan and Manon has their own POVs as well as Celaena and Chaol. Rowan was kick-ass, but sweet and sympathetic at the same time. He suited Celaena perfectly, but I cannot see anything possibly more than just a strong bond and friendship. *twiddles fingers together* Manon was a little too sensible, but you know, she added some sass into the novel—not that we didn't have enough of it beforehand. 

Celaena was Celaena—perfection and my role model, Chaol was hot, steamy, and wanting, but I wish we had more Dorian. Damn, he was only mentioned a few times, and there were no large scenes incorporated with him. Does this mean that there will never be anything between him and Celaena?

"Aedion began roaring—roaring and cursing at the king, thrashing against his chains, but the guards hauled him away, and Chaol was too stunned to do anything other than watch the rest of Sorscha's body topple to the ground. And then Dorian, still screaming, was scrambling through the blood toward it—toward her head, as if he could put it back. As if he could piece her together."

I think my love for Dorian is crazy and there's a tiny chance that I might love him more than I adore Chaol, and maybe that's why this went to a four star rating? 

In the end, this series is #1 and beyond for me. Sarah J. Maas is my favourite author—she stuns me during every chapter, page, sentence, and word that she writes. I guess that's the magic of writing a book that makes you want to fight for a heir of fire.

 Hey. I personally adore reading books that are perfect because of the characters' actions, not because of the fact that they're reacting in a certain way. So why not recommend ten pretties that were awesome because of the way the characters were and what they did?

1. Dangerous Boys, by Abigail Haas

   This was one of the first books that came to mind when I was asking myself this question. This book totally turned out awesome because the characters were psycho with the actions and steps they took. :)

2. The Winner's Curse, by Marie Rutkoski

     Kestrel was kick-ass, and she made the book ten times better than it already was. She made the right decisions and I ended up loving her sassy self in the world that she was in.

3. Afterworlds, by Scott Westerfield

         Scott Westerfeld created a book inside a book. How can this book itself not be character-driven? Darcy led the book by her actions and sassy author-self, and Lizzie led her story by doing what she did in the terrorist attack scene. Character-driven? Totally.

4. The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die, by April Henry

            Where would this story end up if Cady didn't make the decisions that she did make? Nowhere, I tell you. What would you do if you woke up not knowing where you are and you hear men talking about how they're going to do something to you?

5. The Kiss of Deception, by Mary E. Pearson

           Damn, I loved this book. TOTAL FAVOURITE OF 2014. MY OH MY. :) Lia was Mary E. Pearson's best, and all of the crazy kick-ass awesome events were led by Lia's awesomeness.

6. Burning, by Elana K. Arnold

            Lala was a gypsy, and all she ever wanted was to leave her life and be free. Free of rules and specific things needed to do. So, it all happened because of her actions, and look where it got her.

7. Midnight Thief, by Livia Blackburne

            Kyra was homeless at one point. Because of her kick-assness and sass, she ended up becoming an assassin and leading this story off to a better standing. SHE ENDED UP IN THE ASSASSIN GUILD, FOR GOODNESS GRACIOUS.

8. The Tyrant's Daughter, by J.C. Carleson

           Laila fought racism, and poverty. She fought bullying. In the end, everything ended up positive because of her. PRAISE THE BOOK LORDS FOR CREATING AN AMAZING HEROINE WHO INSPIRED US!

9. Tell Me Again How a Crush Should Feel, by Sara Farizan

               Hey, the book and its events came to be because Leila didn't know about her feelings and she created those hilarious and shocking events. Thanks to her simplicity and confidence, she got me giving this book a whopping 5 stars. :)

10. Crown of Midnight, by Sarah J. Maas

       Who can forget including a Sarah J. Maas book as a tag for a character-driven book. If you love character-driven books, then STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND PICK THIS SERIES UP RIGHT NOW. Celaena made the feels come alive for me and I ended up in a massive book-hangover after this.

   I love the month of October—there's always so many things that are going on! The season of fall really begins to heat up and that always creates those rainy Saturdays that give you the perfect opportunity and feeling to read a good book while being cuddled up in a blanket with a mug of a pumpkin spice latte... but there's also Halloween. 

    I've actually never have done a Halloween bookish tag or event on my blog before, but because I feel like I'm in the total mood for it, why not host my own Halloween readathon event?

   This isn't your average bookathon where you've only got two or three days to read a specific number or genre of books, I've planned this to be done all through the month of October! I'm a little late with the starting date, but you can begin whenever! I'm planning to begin ASAP!

      How This Works: Create a pile of books that you need to read that's titles begin with H then A then L and so forth until you spell out the word, "Halloween." There's no really specific genre of books that you can go by, but make sure to read them in whatever order you'd like!
      This is great because it will help you choose different reads or go through your TBR shelf faster... Since I am a very fast reader, I'm going to try and read two "Halloween" piles! Here they are!

         (Thick Reads) I didn't really choose my piles to have specific genres, so they're all mixed with what I can find in my bookshelf: contemporary, dystopia, sci-fi etc. These are basically all thicker reads that are going to take me a longer time to finish!

            (Thin Reads) I couldn't find another book in my shelf that begins with "O," so I chose to go with Quarantine instead, haha.

What inspired you to write LAILAH?
As all the best stories start... ‘I had a dream!’
Seriously, that’s what happened.
I dreamed of Lailah, and the thought of her simply wouldn’t leave me.

If you could only have one book with you on a deserted island, what would it be?
The Lord of the Rings (I’m taking the box set – I don’t care what you say!)
First, they are some of my favorite books of all time.
Second, because I would be reminded that there are worse places to be than stuck on a desert island, such as Mordor, and at least I don’t have the worry of Orcs and the Nazgul.

How do you write SwoonWorthy moments?
With plenty of swoon ;)
Okay... if you want to get really technical...
When writing a swoon-worthy moment, I think about the five senses – sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch – and I incorporate them into the descriptive language, which helps build the scene. I try to keep an ambiguity around ‘will they, won’t they’ when writing these moments, building them up, only to knock them down again, ready for the next round!

Do you have any traditions you do before you sit and write?
Boil the kettle...
Brew a teapot...
Put my headphones on, and gear myself up for a long writing stretch!

You’re watching TV; what TV show are you watching?
I tend to watch Netflix and almost always re-runs of The Office (American version).
If I switch on the TV, it’s likely that I will be watching The Big Bang Theory.

Who is your ultimate Book Boyfriend? (No cheating!!!)
That’s such an unfair question.

Right now I am loving Tobias from Divergent, having just read the first book! Strong, rugged and brooding... *Le Sigh* *Le Swoon* and, yes, *fans oneself*!

What inspires you most to write? (Songs, dreams, surroundings..etc.)
Lailah came to me in a dream and stayed with me, so I’d say dreams inspire me most. But when it comes to the writing process, I would find it far more difficult to get in the mood to write an action scene, for example, without first playing the ‘Rocky’ soundtrack! Music is SO important.

Why did you decide to write YA?
The best advice I ever received about writing was to 'write what you know, and write what you love.' For me that was YA Fantasy with some uber-swoon thrown in!

What books would you recommend to readers who enjoyed your book?
Lailah is a YA Paranormal Romance / Fantasy, so I'd probably recommend other YA PNR novels… Oh and I have thrown in a few of my fave YA's that aren't necessarily PNR!

Stacking the Shelves #11: October 4

Hey, everyone! I am a very happy and pleased person today—I am very proud and satisfied with this week's book haul of mine! I have to admit that I've bought, borrowed, and received many pretty reads for a week's time. 

What's been going on? Not too much, really. I'm planning on announcing a Halloween-bookish-themed tag that I will be creating on the blog sometime this week (to get us all in the mood for the spookiness of reads) and my Heir of Fire review will be going up on the blog on Wednesday! (Damn, that book was beautiful.)

I also have to announce that I am not co-blogging on Happy Indulgence anymore for the fact that I am not able to keep up with both blogs at the same time. School is too crazy. But of course, you can find my reviews and I over here 24/7! ;)

My Physical Book Haul:

No physical books from the publishers this week, but many from libraries! I borrowed Dangerous Creatures and The Knife of Never Letting Go from my school library, and Tsarina, Now & Forever, Fan Art, Made For You, and Can't Look Away from the public library!

Hehe I was also fortunate to grab myself a copy of We Were Liars from my bookstore! I've wanted it for the longest time... and have heard many great things about it. I'm also going to be seeing E. Lockhart at a book-fair here in Toronto next month!

Hit, by Delilah S. Dawson — I NEED SERVANTS OF THE STORM, and this one sounds amazing. This sounds like superhero awesomeness.

Compulsion, by Martina Boone — Beautiful cover, beautiful romance. It sounds perfect as a fall-rainy day read.

The Ten Book Challenge

First of all, let me send a HUGE thank you to the magnificent PaperbackPrincess @ Young Adult Book Reviews  for tagging me to do this!

So basically the rules are to list 10 books that have stayed with you in some way. I have so many of these, so I'm really excited to share them with you! *makes an one hundred book challenge instead*

1. A Mad Wicked Folly, by Sharon Biggs Waller

     I loved this book to death. Maybe it holds a place in my heart so deeply because it's one of the only historical fiction that I give a million stars to? Damn, but really, Will Fletcher was the hottest male character ever. ;)

2. Dissonance, by Erica O'Rourke

       *tears up when sees cover* MAN OMG MY FAVOURITE BOOK OF 2014 AND ONE OF MY FAVOURITES EVER! It was the first physical ARC I've ever gotten and the best parallel-universe story, ever. AHHH.

3. The Secret Diamond Sisters, by Michelle Madow

        Every time I remind myself of the feelings that I received when reading this book, I squeal. I just want to remind myself what it felt like to read such a beautiful empress of literature again! (Even though it was only a few weeks ago, hehe.)

4. The Host, by Stephanie Meyer

        YESYESYESYESYES. I read this in a few hours, fell in love, and went to see the movie release day and bought all of the other books associated with it and the movie. Call me a fangirl, haha. IT STOLE MY HEART and it has such a special place that makes me clench up with happiness every time. I need a sequel.

5. Clockwork Princess, by Cassandra Clare

         AH! This trilogy changed my life. This was the best ending to a series that I've ever read about, and the characters ended up to become my best friends—Jem, Tessa, Will, Charlotte, Sophie, Gabriel, ALL OF THEM. Cassie Clare truly surprised us and whipped us around. I bought and read this on publishing date and cried like a maniac and I ended up spoiling myself by looking at the map at the back of the dust jacket. Heh.

6. Hate List, by Jennifer Brown

           I'd have to say that this is probably the most moving book I've ever read. There were flaws, but flaws = perfection, so I was touched by the concept and feelings that it gave me. I never looked at this book the same afterwards because it moved me. 

7. This Star Won't Go Out, by Esther Earl

               Gorgeous Esther Earl is my inspiration. Her story did more than touched my heart and threw my emotions around—it inspired me and she made the world a better place. She inspired me to do so many things and helped me realize what else there is in life. I don't know what I'd do without this book. :)

8. Isla & the Happily Ever After, by Stephanie Perkins

                 Stephanie Perkins is amazing. Stephanie Perkins is a goddess. Stephanie Perkins can make you tear up in a snap. Stephanie Perkins's books are my life-savers and pure literature excellence. Isla, especially. Best book of the trilogy and the most wrecking but gorgeous.

9. Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas

             ToG brought fantasy reads to a whole 'nother level. It showed me that books can be diverse and different, and it made me fall in love with love-triangles all over again as I once did. It is still to this day one of the best books of my life, and I adore this series inside and out!

10. The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins

       Who can forget about the book that I seriously praise and thank everyday (more to the author I guess, haha) for bringing me to YA when I was just 9 years old. After that summer day in August, I never turned back and doubted my decisions with blogging and reading. I LOVE YOU SUZANNE COLLINS. ^_^

Review:

"Write it out today, put it away, make sense of it tomorrow."

Bullying is horrible. But then again, it sometimes happens because of karma and craziness and drama that happened in the past, and in this story, you'll probably be hating the protagonist, Regina, in the beginning.

This girl was a bully herself. I first felt like she deserved what she got. (I know, I'm a very mean person.) The amount and craziness of things that she did to people was unforgivable, but her friends did the same things, and they eventually got onto picking on Regina. 

And this all began because of a rumour. 

Regina was known to have done something horrible with her best friend's boyfriend.. but it really isn't true. Now, her best friends are against her, and she's not part of the clique that everyone feared of anymore. The whole school is against her, and she's beginning to get bullied and abused by the people she once trusted. As she gets more down and depressed day by day, the only person who really is there for her is Michael, a guy she used to bully herself. Hey, but love might not be strong as hurting.

I actually didn't expect to love this book as much as I did. The idea was strong, it was there, and it stayed. The idea was powerful and Courtney Summers did a fantastic job at keeping it real and believable. She showed a point of view of a subject that is very common and crazy in our reality and world today.

So here you're sitting, wondering, "Will I cry and will my feels explode?" Possibly. I teared up a little because of sympathy and sadness. Who wouldn't feel sad for a girl in this situation? She got molested and was pushed and locked in a closet. She got the word, "whore" sprayed on her locker. There was a hate page of her on the internet. It was so horrible, but beautiful at the same time because it was amazingly touching. The writing was perfect.

What wasn't as "perfect" were the characters. Regina was okay, obviously. Dumb in the beginning, but strong as the story went on. I sadly didn't like Michael and his romance with Regina at the same time. Something was missing between them, and the author made it seem like the romance was a big part and chunk of the book. I didn't really see that as well and clear as others seemed to have.

Otherwise and on the other hand, Courtney Summers has really written an enjoyable novel that really gives us another view on a horrifying subject. She's given us a whole other experience.
