I normally never borrow books from the library. It was never really my kind of thing- isn't it the best when you have a copy of your own book and get to read it as slow as you'd like? But, today I went to my local library for the first time in years to submit a short story for a contest, and when I happened to pass the Young Adult Fiction section, I just had to stop and pick up every beautiful book I saw. So these are the ones I picked up!
So, what are your perks of borrowing books from the library? What are the negatives?
I used to go to the library every week when I was a kid but I haven't been there in years. Sounds like a great haul though I've heard great things about a lot of these - Also Known As had surprisingly positive reviews. I dunno why but I expected that one to be more cliché but apparently it's pretty good!!
ReplyDeleteYes! I picked that one up because of those reviews- although I wasn't really sure about it because yes, it sounds cliché! I'm going to give it a try once I finish a few ebooks!
DeleteI guess the negative to picking up books at the library is the fact that you need to read them in a specified time, but that can be a pro as well. Another pro is that you get to read them without forking out any money! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed The Rules for Disappearing so I hope you do, too! :)
Definitely! It motivates you to read faster and gives you a deadline, but it totally sucks when you love the book and it isn't yours to keep. :')
DeleteYay! That's a read that I've been wanting for a long time!
Not having to pay for the books is definitely a plus. If I like a book enough, I'll buy my own copy. As for the time limit, I'm a pretty fast reader, so it's not that bad.
ReplyDeleteSame here! I think I'll fly by this quickly, about to begin one tomorrow!
DeleteVery nice. I used to get books from the library all the time as a pre-teen and teen. I'd say the downside is I struggled to return books on time. However, I now get books from the library on occasion. A couple of the books I read for A to Z were ones I found in the library to get all the letters done.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the plus side is you don't know if you're going to like a book or series. Checking it out first from the library is a chance to do it without spending 10 bucks only to find out you hate the story. Good for trying out different genres and such. Plus it helps support the libraries for others to have access to all the books.
Yeah, that's probably the biggest problem people have with libraries.
DeleteYes! If I really like the series, then I'll actually purchase it to have it in my collection. It's good to give it a try for free. x)
I'm a librarian so I've got plenty of books at my disposition for free :) And now, readers can postpone their return dates by internet. They can also suggest we buy specific books (if we have enough money for that) and put them on hold when they're already borrowed. Thanks for the post !
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! Hopefully all libraries will have that one day! :)
